How do I re-format a Paint Pic to a Photo Pic?

I just spent an hour editing a picture in paint so I could set it to my Xbox dashboard, but It won't recognize it. It says bitmap image under properties. I tried a different picture that said JPEG Image under properties and that worked fine. How to I change the properties from bitmap to JPEG? ty
Okay, I figured out how to reformat it, but my xbox still waon't read it...any ideas?
