How do I put brushes onto Gimp?

I have Gimp 2, and I just downloaded some brushes. The brushes are now on my desktop, but I don't know how to get them onto the Gimp program. How do I do it?

I was thinking maybe it's similar to how you would download fonts and put them in the 'fonts' folder. But I've never downloaded brushes before, so can someone please help me?
