How do I publish a book on limited funds?

I am almost finished with my book. It will be about 300 pages when I am done, give or take. I am not sure where to go from here. I have very little money to spend to get this book going, and have no idea where to turn next. I've heard various options and researched a couple of companies. In most cases it appears it will cost me $12,000 to get a book started. I certainly cannot afford that!

Are there any companies that will handle all the cost of publishing, for perhaps a huge chunk of the royalties (or all of them until the debt of printing is repaid)?

Is there anything I should do with my book before sending it off to possible publishers? Do they do the editing, or do I have to to pay for that? And where do I find editors?

I am not interested in self-publishing, as I do not have the means to pay for my own book to be published, let alone to distribute, market and promote it. (And I have heard a lot of bad things about self-publishing).

Thanks.

You need to find a literary agent to sell the book for you.

If you're a new author, that is the best way to make it happen. Don't trust any company that wants you to pay up front, most companies will just want a cut of the book's profits.
