I have over a dozen outdoor concrete garden statues that have paint chipping off or the paint has faded, or peeled away. The status are figurines I have around my outdoor koi pond and surrounding landscape around the pond. They have become really bad eye sores and all are in need of a new paint job. I never painted statues before, but have painted my home indoors and out along with many objects used indoors or outdoors. I have done some research on this topic, but there does not seem to be a constant and proper way to approach repainting weathered away/damaged concrete statues.. The only constant factor is to power wash before doing anything. but everyone has a different method, different opinion on paint types, mixing paint, applying, etc.
I would like to know what kind of proper primer and paint to use and where I can obtain these forms of primer and paint. I'm not sure which is proper, acrylic or oil, and what I can use to seal the paint after I'm done repainting them to ensure some prolonged life and safety from the elements.
If anyone has done this kind of painting before on statues, I would really appreciate some insight as how I should approach such a project and getting it done right the first time. I look forward to some helpful insight!
Thanks in advance
