How Do I Play a .swf file on my computer?

I've downloaded Adobe shockwave, realtime, and some other thing that didn't work. It's a simple flashgame! Whenever I try to open it (I HAVE tried opening it through firefox by going to file: open, and so on) I keep getting a blank, black screen. The game won't load or work at all! It's getting really frustrating!
Anyone have an idea as what to do?
*not realtime, realplayer.
 
You can just download the flash game using a flash downloader, and directly play it inside the downlaoder too. What's more, if you like, you can proceed to record the way how you play this flash game to popualr video format for easy shaing.
