How do I paint my nunchucks and replace the chain?

My instructor's wife is like a Mom to me and she gave me a pair of nunchucks. The paint job sucks though. I have metal nunchucks but I'm not sure which kind. It might be stainless steel. I have the spray paint I want now I just need help.
 
they are call nunchaku not nunchaks or any other spelling.
the sell replacement chain for nunchaku, i believe they use an oil base paint on them.

rope is much better less chance of breaking and binding up, the chain spins slower and is much more noisier as they get older.
i have had the same rope pair for over a decade with no issues. i never paint nunchaku and use natural wood and just put a light layer or oil on them
