How do i paint my Nerf guns with different colors?

i have some Nerf dart blasters and i wish to paint them, as I'm going to have a Nerf war at night. I want to make my guns stealthy but don't want to take away from the special design of them. So my plan is to paint them with different colors. I want to paint them mostly black. For the handles and some other, more blaster-specific detail i was going to do a dark metallic gray, like a steel color. Other colors i may use are red and bronze.
