How do I paint my kitchen cabinets? I need step by step instructions.?

Hi Laurie. my hub is a contractor and I have painted alot.. never heard of zinsser.. but if they are wood.. I would sand em a little with sandpaper and then prime them with primer and paint em with whatever interior paint you like. I personally do not care for oil base.

Hey Laurie
I would lightly sand them a little with sandpaper , blow off the dust leftover from the sanding, then prime them with primer (which is white or grey) and paint em using a Kitchen/Bathroom Paint. which is moisture & mildew resistant. ( Not any household paint yu have lying around). Wait 2 to 4 hours for primer to dry and start painting using a roller brush and get urself a small little brush for the crevasses and stuff. Ive painted alot myself and they turn out beautifully. I do not care for oil base either!!
Black or Shocking White cabinets look gorgeous in kitchens with new hardware. Happy painting!!!

I have found that an oil base paint works best. I like to use the sponge type roller cover. It puts the paint on super smooth with no brush marks at all. The oil paint flows into a uniform coat w/o brush strokes much better than the water based but is a pain to clean up. It also has a tendency to turn a little yellow over a long time period but how long will you be living in that house? The zinsser primer would be a good first step after a light sand. Then re sand lightly after the zinsser and before the one or two coats of oil paint. If you use oil paint make sure you use oil based zinsser or other primer first. Latex paint can go on top of oil or latex based primer but oil paint should only be applied on top of oil based primer. Good Luck.
