how do i open internet history to clear it?

im looking for a new job and dont want my current employer to know so i need to erase the internet history. however when i go to internet options and under general - history is not highlighted it is darkened and i cant clear the history days kept on file. how do i higlight this to clear days history is kept. i want to zero these days.

Either hit Control-H
Other options: go to history (in Firefox) or View-Explorer Bar-History (in Internet Explorer)
