...am a senior.....sorry :(? I am not very computer literate, but may be able to follow instructions on how to make Windows Media Player my default player.
I have windows XP
I tried going to start/programs but don't see how I can choose a particular program to be the default......

Go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types. Find the file types you want to open in Media Player. Some of them will be WMV, WMA, ASF, WM, ASX, WVX. Click on each one. If "Opens With" says something other than Windows Media Player, just Change it.

(I'm a senior too. I understand...)

the easiest way is to right click on the item you want to open, then go to 'open with' then there might be a list of say 3 things, realplayer etc. You will see windows media player.

Before you click on submit/OK, first look for a tiny little box in the bottom left hand corner. It will say 'always open with this' or default or something.

Tick that box ,select the player you want (in your case click on windows media player) and then submit/press OK.

From then on every other file type the same will automatically open in media player. That's how to do it even if you don't want it to be your default. For example if one time you wanted Realplayer to view just one thing, but your default is windows media player. Do what I said, but keep the box unticked.

You can change your default for all files by following the instructions the other guy gave you :)

There should be a list of different file types and you need to choose what ones or tick them all. That's why I suggest just doing it this way, as all the file type might confuse you.
