How do i make the reverse lights work on my 68' Ford F-100?

I got my truck from some family members and it was a standard. On standard trucks that year model there was a button that was pushed by the gear shift when it was put in reverse that made the reverse lights come on. They changed it from a standard to an automatic and left the button hanging there so now when i put the truck in reverse nothing pushes the button, therefore the reverse lights don't come on. Does anyone know how i could fix this problem so my reverse lights will work when the truck is in reverse with the automatic transmission.
 
Either install a manual button (which can be handy to hit the reverse lights when you are being tail-gated), or the trans itself may have a connection to activate the reverse light.
