How do I make my screen images smaller to fit the screen?

I need to "zoom out" so I can read without constantly moving the web site I'm on from right to left and back. It's like the screen images are to big for the monitor....How do I make what I'm viewing smaller?
Windows XP system (if it matters). Thanks.
 
Hold the Ctrl button and scroll your mouse wheel. It will go either closer or further than where you're at now.
You can also use the Ctrl button and the Up and Down arrows too if you're not using a mouse!
