...connect it directly to my PC? The wireless broadband router is a Linksys 2.4GHz and I have a Gateway desktop with Vista. It won't run wireless, apparently it doesn't have a wireless card. I've heard I could just put a wireless receiver into a USB port and I could go wireless. Is this true?
 
Yes, you need a wireless adapter which you can purchase at a store or online.

Also, look on your router to see if it says whether it is a "B, G, or N router", you should then purchase a corresponding card for best performance. (N is the newest, and is more expensive but it won't really give you any added performance if you don't have a draft N router.)
