how do i make a motorola headset work my computer?

I have this headset that was originally for my phone but then I cut the cord on it and noticed that it had the same exact wires as a normal usb plug, so i wired one up to it and then when I plugged it into my computer windows 7 didn't recognize it at all? Any ideas on why this wouldn't work? How would I get it to work?
