How do I make a highlight film of my favorite sports athlete with my own music? where...

...do I get the clips? I know how to do it and everything by using iMovie for the mac computer, but how in the world do I get the clips of this athlete onto iMovie? and without sound so I can put my own music in...... How are all these people making these highlight films? Can someone please explain this whole process in detail.... I'm extremely lost..... thanks
