How do i make a collage on my computer to save as my background?

I have a dell desktop computer and i want to save some pics i got from google to put them together as a collage and make that my background on my computer screen. i have all microsoft stuff like microsoft word and powerpoint and all that. i already tried doing it with the paint application but it didn't work! plz help
