How do i know that my honda civic 1998 is CX, HX, DX, LX or EX?

In that case it comes down to features that it has & doesn't have as well as the engine it has. Certain models come with certain things & engines whereas others don't.

As you said it was a sedan that would eliminate it being a CX (hatchback only).

If it has no power steering it may be a DX with manual transmission.

The DX model came with no power locks, power windows, cruise control or sunroof.

The LX (sedan only) model came with power windows, power locks & cruise control

The EX model came with all the above, including sunroof & map lights.

The HX model came with the same features as the LX except cruise control.

As far as the engines

DX, LX - D16Y7
HX - D16Y5
EX - D16Y8

Hope that helps.

No idea on the CX or HX because they are so rare nowadays. The absolute easiest way to tell is the front "grill" or where the air is routed to the radiator. 3 lines across is a DX, 2 is LX, 1 is EX.

Call the Honda hotline at 1-800-999-1009. Write down your VIN (on the drivers side door) and provide them this information. As a rule of thumb, in Hondas, the dx is the most basic, standard equipment trim line, LX has all or most of the features and equipment, and an EX has a different type of exhaust (dual) or engine.
