I have a 4 cylinder 1994 Toyota Camry. From last winter, it started giving me trouble. Here is what happens. Depending on the weather temperature, it can go only up to 3rd speed for the first 10-20 minutes no matter how hard I press the gas paddle. At 40 mph the motor runs at @ 2300-2500 rpm. After 10-20 minutes of driving when the motor is worm enough, it starts shifting to 4th and 5th speed and rpm drops to @ 1700 at 40 mph. It works perfect during summer though. I talked to a mechanic and he told me that it might be your transmission!!
I appreciate all the answers that I received in a very short period of time. Here is some more info on this problem.
1. This problem never happened before and only started from last winter.
2. I might try a different grade of engine oil per veggiesrok.
3. The mileage is @ 125,000 miles.
4. I also will check if my transmission oil is due for a change per dbHARMesq.
