How do i know if my new power supply isn't working in my newly built computer?

I just built my computer but nothing happens, no fans run or any noise comes from it. After i turn it on the only thing is the power indicating LED light on the case flashes for a second and goes away. How do I know if its the motherboard or if its just a bad power supply?
 
There are tester machines for power supplies you can buy but probably not really worth it unless you build a lot of computers. One thing to check is the other plug to the motherboard besides the 24 pin one. It should be 4 or 8 pins.
