Life is pretty much the same with any other job, cept for odd hours. You work MOST, if not all, holidays. But you get buttloads of Holidays, Personal Leave, Annual Leave, and Sick Leave to use. Usually, you will work 40hrs a week, whether you do 6x 8hr tours or 4x 12hr tours a week. Here we work 6 days on, 2 off. Many places utilize 4 on, 2 off. However, there is ALWAYS the chance of working overtime, whether it be court (which you WILL have on days off, and after/before work (depending on your shift)), and there will be grants, Special Details (4th of July, New Years, parades, etc). Being a police officer is NOT for everyone, but I believe anyone can do it, if you really want to. Go on some ride-alongs with some officers, ask some questions! Remember, the Academy is there to weed out the weak.
