How do I keep my stereo volume down to keep from disturbing my neighbors?

So I'm sure there are a lot of people on both sides of the problem. I have a really nice home theater set-up that sounds fantastic when it's loud, but the only problem is it disturbs my neighbors a lot. I almost got kicked out of my last residence because of this problem. I play a lot of video games (Call of Duty 4, Halo 3) for a really long amount of time when I have it. So is there an inexpensive way to fix this. Thanks
