Whenever the electricity goes off obviously the heater and filter stop working.
Liz C~ You dumb ass do you really think I would ask if I don't have the money to pay the electric bill? I have NEVER had my electric shut off. We have had a lot of storms recently you bitch

If the electricity goes off most of the time where you live then i would recommend you investing on a small generator, that way you can have some sort of light and also hook the tank to it.

your electricity is going off, for how long?
If you are talking about if it goes off in a storm, they should be fine for a couple hours if it is like that. If it is cause you can not pay you need to find a new home for the fish.

If the power goes off for a short time there really should be no harm to your fish. If the weather is REALLY cold and the electricity goes out for a LONG time, then you may have to watch the water Temperature.

The biggest concern is the water being siphoned out of the tank through the air tubes. You need to have your pumps above the water level and/or put anti-siphone devices on your pump to prevent it.
