it realy depends on what type of plant you have planted corn and onoins dont reqire a lot of watter so wattering them may actauly hurt them. tomatoes and jolepenoes and squash require a lot of watter. i give my plants about 2-3 cups of watter a day in the evening. i dont know why but it seems to have a negative affect if you watter your plants in the morning. were i live there it is about 90 degrees but all my tomatoes and squash are doing fine. also i havnt wattered my pumpkins, wattermelons, cantelops, garlic, or sunflowers once and they are doing fine and it hasnt rained in at least a month
