How do I increase the MTU with Virgin Media broadband?

Trying to connect to XBOX LIVE but MTU is too low.

Im trying to connect via my laptop as i havent got a network connector. Unfortunatly my xbox isnt in the same room as the router and modem so cant connect directly.
