how do I hook up my ps3 to a samsung home theatre system Model HTZ320?

how do I hook up my ps3 to a samsung home theatre system Model HTZ320, there is a digital audio optical thingy on the ps3 and the theatre system, i thought i had purchased what i needed but it had this long fiber optic end on it that stuck out and would not fit into the ps3 or theatre system...what do i need to purchase to get this to work?

im a home audio n00b...sorry
