How do I go from the KS National Guard to Active Duty in the Army?

I just joined the Kansas National Guard about a week ago. I go to OSUT (Basic and Individual Training combined) on 9/7 at Ft. Knox. Then my unit will get deployed to somewhere in Northern Africa in May of 2010.

What is the best way to go Active Duty?

I have heard that when I return from my deployment I can request to remain on Active Duty. But can my Chain of Command from the Guard deny this?
 
Go to your local Army recruiter and start the paperwork by getting a Conditional Release form. The recruiter initiates it, and your current unit will have to approve it.
