How do I go about joining the military without being stationed abroad?

I'm not to keen on being put in a foreign country where I don't know the language. How can I be assured such an atrocity won't happen to me?
Learning is no problem, but if I won't be learning, that's when it becomes an issue. Will I be foretold what language if I'm appointed to learn?
