How do I go about Building a Small Linux Server?

I want to Build A Small Linux Server that will be used for the Following:
Host a website of my own.
use it for Ventrilo (max of 100 People)
and FTP files for friends.

Are there any guides to getting started. Im new to Linux and servers. Any Tips, Pointers, and Guides would be appreciated
