How do I go about becoming a college/university chorus director?

I am a soon-to-be senior in high school, I am planning on attending a four year college for music. I am planning on double majoring in vocal music performance, but a m unsure about majoring in music ed. Is that my only option. I'm aware that you cannot major in choral conducting until you are going for your masters, but I would like to direct a college level or professional chorus.
 
Your information is really good. You will need to get at least a masters degree in vocal music. You may have to start in high school or a community college. I don't know where you are, but jobs at that level in California are just about non-existent. Of course, that could change by the time you're out of school.
