How do I get the plastic hubcaps off of my 2005 Honda Accord?

Was told just to pop the tabs out at the sides of the hubcap, and it would come right off, but it is clear that it is secured somehow in the middle. Not sure how to get it loose. Am trying to sand rust off of the rims, but feel as if I am going to break the hubcaps to get to them.
