How do I get the HTC Smart to go completely silent? (more info inside)?

So, I put my phone on silent, if I get a text no sound plays, but when I send a text it makes a noise when the balance comes up or when I turn it off! I don't know how to get it to stop! It is the same if I put it on the "vibrate only" mode.
Any help?
