How do I get the chat window to pop up?

It used to be that when someone opened a chat conversation or continued an existing conversation, a window showing the conversation would pop up. Now, only the Yahoo icon on my task changes color, but I often don't notice it.

Is there a way I can get Messenger to work the way it used to?
