How do I get rid of soap and limescale build up inside my washing machine?

This has been bothering me for a while. My washing machine just seems to be coated in a layer of grime inside the middle part and for some reason when I try to put the wash on hot no water comes out. Any suggestions as to how I can get rid of the build up?
