How do I get rid of a proxy on Mozilla Firefox / Google Chrome?

Neither of these browsers work for me all of a sudden, and I suspect a proxy may be to blame.
Internet Explorer works just fine, so I've resorted to using this for the time being.

Mozilla Firefox:
When I open this, it doesn't even attempt to load a page. It instantly redirects to the "Problem Loading Page" site, and says it cannot establish a connection with the server at en-gb.start3.mozilla.com.
When I go into Connection Settings, the "No Proxy" option is selected.

Google Chrome:
When I open Google Chrome, it says, "Resolving Proxy" at the bottom of the page before diverting to the, "This webpage is not available" site. The error is dubbed:
"Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error."
I have no idea how to disable the proxy.

All help is appreciated. Please try to be as detailed as you can, and if you need any more information, I'd be happy to include it in the Addtional Info, so make sure you check back if you ask for anything.
If I could get at least one of these browsers back, I'd be happy. Anything's better than Internet Explorer.

On a side note: I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both these browsers, but that did not work. The whole problem with Mozilla started when I downloaded their latest update.

Thanks :)
