How do I get my Windows Media Player to acknowledge my mp3 player?

I have always been able to put songs onto my mp3 players and my cell phones, but now the computer recognizes that I have devices plugged in, but not in Windows Media Player.

I am using version 11 and running Vista. I know, two strikes against me.
