I bought a new DRZ400SM in August. This winter I didn't ride it for about 6 weeks, the batt went completely down. I charged it up and it did OK until I didn't ride it for 11 days. This time it was not Strong enough to start it but the light would come on. This time I charged it up and it started. I took it back to the dealer and explained what happened. The service manager said he could not find anything wrong with it. They just told me to keep a float charger on it. What do you think?

i would go back to the dealer and ask to talk to the general manager, if they ask why just tell them you are not happy as a new customer and would like to talk to them, then tell them that if they make it right then you will be back for you next bike if not you will spread the word not to deal with them too all that you meet.you are worth 49.00 as a customer if not i would not deal with them there's not much more that that too do.

Don't go back to the dealer and make them suffer your ignorance. A lead acid battery left unused will begin to sulfate sometimes in as little as a week. you do need to purchase a float charger and keep your battery on it whenever it will not be in use for more than a few days. You will also need to check the fluid level at least once a week and add distilled water as needed. Your current battery is most likely sulphated rather badly and on your next trip to the dealer you should kindly ask about a discount on a new battery and float charger bought as a package rather than being an annoyance.
