How do I get my spare tire out of the rack on a '97 Ford Ranger?

My 97 Ranger didn't come with a manual, and I can't readily see how to get the spare tire out from the under-bed rack. I understand you insert the jack handle and turn it to lower the tire, but can't for the life of me see where you're supposed to insert it. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm heading on a road trip, and don't want to be stranded without access to my spare. Thanks
