How do I get my phone to recognize the memory card when taking photos (details inside)?

I recently got a Samsung Pixon, and it only came with a 1GB memory card, so I put in my 2gb one I had from my old phone..all the photos from my old phone went onto my new one, but this morning I deleted lots to make room for new ones as I'm going to a party tonight...But it's not saying it has any extra space and is only saying the phone can hold 40 new photos...which is the amount the phone holds with no memory card in at all...

the 2gb memory card is clearly in as all my old photos are on it but i cant seem to get the camera on the phone to take photos on the memory card if that makes sense?

any idea how to get the photos i take to store on the memory card instead of on the phones memory?
