How do i get my mac of DOS Mode?

I tried to download microsoft office with the disk and when i insert the disk so i can download it it tells me cannot read in DOS Mode. I also tried with a hard drive when i was trying to transfer my music to my laptop and it tells me the exact same thing. Any idea how to get rid of this??
