How do I get my laptop to play more MIDI tracks as separate instruments?

I'm using Guitar Pro 5 to write a little music, but I'm having trouble when I try to add more than 10 tracks. After this point, it automatically sets the tracks to the same instrument as track 10, and if I change it, all the track 10-whatever, change also.

This is presumably something to do with my soundcard or some such, but I'd like confirmation before I go to any expense...
