How do i get my green spotted puffer fish to eat?

I've had my green spotted puffer fish for over 5 days now, i haven't fed him ever since i got him. Every time i try feeding him, he runs away and hides in his little cave. But when i walk away he comes out and swims. I don't want to just leave the food floating since it will just make the water dirty. Is this normal? What can i do to make him know I'm the owner, and make him eat. Any suggestions?
I have this frozen shrimp / bloodworm food for him so that should be good. What about small snails?

try ghost shrimp, and if you have a tight fitting lid try crickets (give them something to sit on above water). Buy a floating aquatic worm holder and fill it with black worms. Also try live brine shrimp.

fishes are not like dogs. there stupid like they dont think
i have about 100 convicts and right when i go infront of my tank they all run away and go hide. i think its a normal thing. and im sure he will get hungy and eat the food. just let the food float and your fish will eat it you might not see him/her eatin it but the will eat it
