Alright so about a week ago I bought a new logitech clear chat headset, just the basic 20 dollar cheap one. I'm not looking for premium qaulity, top of the line stuff... I just want to have poeple hear me in games. Anyhow I got home and opened the mic up and quickly plugged it into its correct holes. I'm not good with this stuff so I can tell you that i matched up the little headphone thingy with the same symbol on the computer and the mic symbol with the mic symbol XD. So its plugged in correctly. I'm running vista on a Dell XPS M1530, and the computer registers that a microphone is plugged in, and it says it is working properly, and i can hear sound through the headset. But when i try to talk in even the basic sound recording, or just a playback test (let alone my goal of Ventrilo) it picks up absolutely NO SOUND. I feel I have tried everything to get it to work. But I don't know what else to do. Keep in mind this computers plugs (not usb) for the sound inputs are in the front and it ALSO HAS A BUILT IN MIC on the top. That might have something to do with this problem...? Another sidenote: I'm able to use the built in microphone on my comp and people can hear me although... it makes my voice SO HIGH pitched that poeple say i sound like a 2 year old or a mouse. I'm 17, puberty has taken its place, I should not sound like a mouse. Its so bad that people accuse me of using voice changers, so this new mic is my only option! I tried updating my sound card and it says I have the latest and best. I'm out of ideas HELP.

And I'm not taking this mic back for a new one because I can't so don't tell me to return it please.

Go to control panel, click on sound, click on the recording tab, find the headset in the list, highlight it and click set default at the bottom.
