They are a true pair. (male and female) They are both old enough. They seem to have bonded. They sleep on the same perch, they eat together, they preen each other, etc. I provided them with plenty of calcium, feed them plenty of food every day, and I increase their daylight hours whenever I try to breed them. I tried before to breed them by putting the nesting box in their cage (with paper towels), the hen laid eggs outside the box (because the male wouldn't let her in the box), but they were infertile. Neither one of them has ever bred with another bird before. The male is hand-fed, the female is not but she is tame and never bites. This time I put the box outside the cage and filled it with pine shavings.
So far, the male does go inside every now and then, seems protective of the box, but won't let the female near the box. Can someone tell me how to induce them into breeding?
