My book could be compared to Harry Potter or Twilight and knowing the genre im getting into im wondering if you think it will make a profit? What do i need to do to get this started? Im sixteen right now however ill probably be 17 when i finish. will this be a problem? With my book in mind is there someplace i could look to see if theres a book with the same subject already written? If you could help me out that would be great. :)
Thank you,
Kaitlyn

You should check out the websites for the publishers and see what other books they have published. And you should google online self publishing. I have done that and a lot have come up. It all depends on what you are looking for. So I would recommend checking that out yourself and deciding what best fits you.

If you're unpublished, try a small press. The big publishers are looking for previously published authors. BOKO.

Getting a book published is NOT a easy proposition, for a 17 year old or anyone else. You will need to work hard on making sure your writing is professional quality before you think about publishing.

My first recommendation is that you show/novel your story to a trusted editor--in person, not on-line....maybe a writing teacher or someone like that who can read the story _critically_ and help you polish and revise your work. If you don't have any adults who can fill that role, start a small creative writing group where you can share and edit...

For lots more information on publishers and magazines that might be possibilities for your writing go to your local library or bookstore and get the newest edition of Writers and Illustrators Marketplace--gives details on how to submit to publishers, which publications specialize in what types of writing, how to contact an agent, etc.

Good luck,

Amy
