I've always wanted to be one of those people who puts lots of work into the garden and knows what to do, but it seems to be hard to start! I'm still at university though so hopefully I have lots of time to learn.
I live in southern NSW, temperate climate.
I've successfully grown zucchini, spring onion, green beans, basil and some flowers in the past. I did have problems with frost though and also animals eating my plants.
My garden right now has been left alone for a long time. There is an old vegetable patch where grass is shooting up - which is actually quite rare in my location! So the soil seems to be fertile.
There are also some other patches with minimal/dry soil I'd like to make use of.
So...what should I do? I'd like some flowers and vegetables. I will probably have to make a cage for the animals. I've figured out more or less what flowers and vegies to go for, but how should I get around the soil problems? Get some delivered? Grow my stuff in mulch? Use what's there? Stuff about the acidity of soil, different types of fertilisers etc is really confusing me. If it's wrong, will I get nothing at all, or just weaker plants?
How do I start?
Correct. Any suggestions?
