How do I get insurance on my verizon wireless phone if I order it online?

My phone broke, and the guy at the verizon wirless store said since my insurance plan is up, I will need to get a new phone and buy it at full price. I want to order it online, and I saw the Blackberry curve. online the price is 49.99. The only problem is that I want to get insurance on it after I get it. The guy at the verizon wireless store said thatr you cannot order it online then bring it into the store to get insurance, so how will I get insurance on it? pleasee help
