How do I get his attention without looking weird or creepy?

Well you see, I like this guy and he's a year older than me. I'm in high school. He does a sport with my best friend and so she talks to him every week (it's not a school sport). I see him in the hallways all the time and I try to 'conveniently' be around whenever he walks by. He told her one day that he knew I liked him. She makes me look creepy every week and tells him the embarrassing things that I do every day. I'm kind of interested in his reaction, so it's not like I care. So he knows I like him and nothing. Also, she has been making me look creepier and creepier every week. I have a feeling I look like a perfect 10 on the creepy scale. There are nearly no opportunities to talk to him in the hallways. How to I ask him out/talk to him without looking weird like my friend makes me look every week?
He doesn't have a facebook.
I have his # (long story how I got that) and I've texted him, but I don't want to over-text and seem creepy.
