How do I get beats to put my songs on Youtube?

I've been listening to a lot of new singers on Youtube lately. They don't seem to have any sort of backup but they sound really good. One singer said he made the song in hi basement. How do unknown singers get the beats/music legally if they are not musicians. Can you be sued for using internet beats? I write a lot of material but I've never done anything with it and I was wondering how to get my songs out there. Suggestions please.
