How do I get apps on a Sony Ericsson X10 Mini?

I have just bought this phone today and I can not get the hang of how to use it. The thing that is bugging me most is the apps. How do I download them? I have tried and it does say downloading but it has been saying that for the past 6 hours (I would imagine it wouldn't take that long). Any help will be much appreciated
