How do I fix my Honda door?

The right front door on my 92 Honda DX wont open. Neither the inside or outside handle opens it. The spring on the back of the outside handle broke off. If I remove the inside panel and door jam panel, i can almost see where the door latches shut. If I notch the metal in the door jam could I pry the latch open to open the door. I don't know what else to do.
